Central Europe’s AI Rollout Needs a Public Error Register

Under the pressure of war and despite institutional challenges, Ukraine still stakes its claim as a regional power. Visegrad Insight asked four Fellows from Ukraine and Poland what that means for Central and Eastern Europe.
Ukraine now provides security rather than consuming it. On 23 August 2026 the leaders of Ukraine and the Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8) issued a joint declaration in Kyiv marking the 35th anniversary of the restoration of Ukraine’s independence, in which they described Ukraine as a security provider in Europe in its own right. Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) has a great deal to learn from that position.
On the defence-industrial front, Freya is an anti-ballistic missile programme initiated and led by the Ukrainian producer Fire Point, built to give European states a cheaper and more scalable alternative to the US Patriot PAC-3 interceptor.
