In February, German citizens will head to the polls for the parliamentary elections. Visegrad Insight will offer extensive analysis and a comprehensive review of the results through three online Zoom sessions. These sessions will bring together leading experts in democratic security, the economy and military affairs to explore the question: ‘What’s the state of Germany?‘ with a particular focus on its impact on Central and Eastern Europe.

Alexandra Geese – She has been a Member of the European Parliament since 2019 and is the digital expert for the Greens/EFA parliamentary group. She negotiated the extensive “Digital Services Act” which regulates digital platforms and social networks. She is a member of the European Democracy Shield Committee in the European Parliament.
Matthew Karnitschnig – He recently joined Euractiv as Editor-in-Chief, based in Brussels. Prior to this role, he was Politico’s chief Europe correspondent, based in Berlin. Karnitschnig joined Politico Europe at its launch in 2015 from The Wall Street Journal, where he spent 15 years in various roles as a reporter and editor in both the US and Europe.
Tobias Spori – He was formerly a Visiting Fellow at GMF. In addition to his GMF fellowship, Tobias is currently a senior research fellow at d|part, a Berlin-based think tank for political participation and democracy, a visiting professor at the Department of Political Science at the University of Vienna, and scientific advisor to the European Capital of Democracy (ECoD) project. His research focuses on the transformation of democracy, political participation, and European politics.
Moderator: Magdalena Góra – Associate Professor (political science) at the Institute of European Studies of the Jagiellonian University primarily concentrating her work on democracy challenges in the European Union after enlargement, crisis of representative democracy, the external relations of the European Union and democratic practices in EU’s close neighborhood.

Jakob Hensing – Research fellow at the Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi) in Berlin, where he focuses on the intersection of economic and security policy. His work looks at how power and security considerations are reshaping the global economy, especially in terms of competition and collaboration on critical and emerging technologies.
Monika Sus – She is a professor of political science at the Institute of Political Studies at the Polish Academy of Sciences (Warsaw, Poland) and an adjunct and fellow at the Center for International Security at the Hertie School (Berlin, Germany). She is also a fellow at the Robert Schuman Center for Advanced Studies at the European University Institute in Florence.
Moderator: Wojciech Przybylski – Political analyst heading Visegrad Insight’s policy foresight on European affairs. His expertise includes foreign policy and political culture. Editor-in-Chief of Visegrad Insight and President of the Res Publica Foundation. Europe’s Future Fellow at IWM – Institute of Human Sciences in Vienna and Erste Foundation. Wojciech also co-authored a book ‘Understanding Central Europe’, Routledge 2017.

Sebastian Bollien – He has been part of the Centre for Strategic Foresight at the German Federal Academy for Security Policy (BAKS) since 2021. He holds a master’s degree in international relations from Jagiellonian University in Krakow, having also studied at partner universities in the region with a focus on the Visegrád Group. Before joining BAKS, he served in the German Air Force, including three years in NATO. His research interests include governmental foresight, security policy, and Central and Eastern Europe.
Philipp Fritz – Marcin Król Fellow at Visegrad Insight. Since 2018, he has been a foreign correspondent for WELT and WELT AM SONNTAG.
Moderator: Magda Jakubowska – Vice President and Director of Operations at the Res Publica Foundation. She is responsible for planning, managing key ventures, including institutional cooperation and partnerships, strategic foresights’ development, and programming.
