19 January 2024
On 19 January 2024, Visegrad Insight had the pleasure to host USAID representatives to discuss the impact of the government change on the rule of law and media landscape in Poland.
In the premises of Res Publica Foundation, Melissa Hooper, human rights lawyer and Senior Advisor, and Olesia Gardner, Civil Society and Media Advisor, met in a closed-door format with Łukasz Lipiński, deputy editor-in-chief at Polityka weekly, Visegrad Insight’s deputy managing editor Adam Jasser, and the Foundation’s vice-president Magda Jakubowska.

In our discussion, we noted that the parliamentary elections on 15 October were marked by exceptionally high turnout which is a testimony to a strong democratic resilience in Poland. The impact of this landmark election on the rule of law and media freedom is likely to be significant in the months ahead. The discussion in the meeting was devoted to assess how so far introduced reforms are being viewed by the public and where media are in this.
