The Trump presidency has been turbulent and the president’s Twitter feed and off-the-script remarks have often raised eyebrows. But has the administration’s track record been bad for Central and Eastern Europe?
Assessments of the past four years of the Trump presidency across policy areas evoke passionate debates. Too often centred on the man himself, such assessments are often reduced to taking on a pro-Trump or anti-Trump focus.
There have been regular reports of the White House dysfunctionalities and the president being at odds with the foreign policy and national security establishment.
Moreover, the president’s behaviour often took its toll on US relations with its allies, including those across the Atlantic: from calling NATO obsolete, images of President Trump pushing aside the Montenegrin president in a photoshoot, strongly worded criticisms of Germany’s security free-riding, to public disagreements about tariffs.
