Karol Nawrocki will take the office at a volatile moment for Poland, for Europe and for the transatlantic alliance. Cast as the heir to PiS cultural agenda and buoyed by far-right support, he presents himself as a defender of sovereignty and tradition.
But with limited formal powers and a contentious relationship with the government, Nawrocki first moves will determine his path: elevate the presidency into a platform for long-term influence, or turn it into a partisan outpost in Poland’s grinding political war.

President-elect Karol Nawrocki will enter office on 6 August with a deeply pro-MAGA orientation, a critical stance toward the EU and an ambition to position himself as the standard-bearer of the new Polish right.
