- Saudi Arabia to host Ukraine peace summit in early August. The Ukrainian-organised event will be held in Jeddah and have ten fundamental points including the “restoration of Ukraine’s territorial integrity, the withdrawal of Russian troops and a tribunal for those responsible for the aggression.”
- The world is to overshoot the Paris Agreement 1.5 degrees Celsius warming target, the UN climate agency stated. UN and EU climate and meteorological bodies also stated that July 2023 will likely break the record for the world’s hottest month.
- Brussels set new rules to increase energy efficiency and drive energy savings, member states will have to collectively ensure a reduction in energy consumption of at least 11.7 per cent at EU level by 2030
- Wagner Group said it suspended recruitment “indefinitely”. In its Telegram channel, the mercenary group, whose future has been closely watched following the apparent mutiny in late June, said it has “large personnel reserves.”
