Poland’s 2025 Presidential Race: Tusk’s Patriotic Gamble

On 7 May, Donald Tusk and Ursula von der Leyen will jointly present their Plan for Europe – expectedly, their take on the upcoming EU Strategic Agenda. This discourse on Europe will take place in Katowice, Poland, ahead of both the 8 May Victory in Europe Day and 9 May Europe Day – celebrations of the Allied victory in WW2 and the Schuman Declaration of May 1950.
In a battle of historical narratives, Russia will celebrate its ‘Victory Day’ and the ‘Inauguration of the President of the Russian Federation’ this week. These displays of strategic narratives at home will follow increased warnings against the Kremlin’s violent sabotage and hybrid attacks across Europe — the integrity of the public sphere, including media space, ahead of the European elections is in the crosshair.
