Orban Uses Anti-LGBTQI Campaign As a Smokescreen

This Week in Central Europe: 21-27 December

21 December 2020

Every Monday Visegrad Insight releases a weekly update on key developments in Central Europe from the point of view of democratic security.

Our team monitors important political, civil society, economy and foreign policy updates and where possible hints at risks and developing scenarios. Currently, we monitor the situation in the following 10 countries.

Higher risks for:

Belarus: The Russian National Guard, which reports directly to Vladimir Putin, has signed an agreement with Alexander Lukashenko to help the Belarusian Interior Ministry in the fight against “terrorism and extremism” and will also support them in protecting public order and safety. This will certainly increase tensions with the opposition movement which has not shown signs of abating.

Lukashenko is mobilising more resources to stage fake support rallies.
