Still, as Western Europe and EU leadership in Brussels quickly move to create a more active and embedded presence on the global digital landscape, it begs the question — where at the table does Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) sit?
Western Europe and the EU leadership in Brussels are moving fast to create a more active and embedded presence on the global digital landscape, but CEE seems, so far, profoundly disassociated from this effort.
If the region continues to be left out of the conversation, the East-West divide will continue to remain strong — in terms of economic opportunities, democratic resilience, talent pool and socio-economic inequalities. Digitalisation is not just an effort to make bureaucratic tasks more efficient.
