Why will Spain die for Danzig? Visegrad Insight and Agenda Pública ask Foreign Ministers Radosław Sikorski and José Manuel Albares.
Wojciech Przybylski, Visegrad Insight and Marc López Plana, Agenda Pública: What common position do Spain and Poland hold on European border policy?
Radosław Sikorski: The integrity of the Schengen area’s external border is absolutely crucial to maintaining freedom of travel inside the Schengen zone. So we owe each other solidarity in protecting both the eastern border and the southern border. Poland and Spain spoke with one voice during the incursion into Ceuta. I am also grateful to my Spanish colleague for his support when we were under attack from Belarus.
José Manuel Albares: In the end, it is a common vision for us. Whether it is the eastern border or the southern border, those are the borders of the European Union, so they are our common borders and we feel them as our own. It is about feeling like a community and knowing that when we act together, we are better protected, we are stronger and deterrence works better against those who want to harm us.
