Orbán’s Nationalists Want to Dance On Ukraine’s Grave
1 December 2025
Poland’s six-month term in the EU Council presidency ends on a strong note for Europe’s power and security, with Warsaw able to claim credit for helping shift the EU’s defence posture.
At the same time, Warsaw is handing over the V4 presidency to Budapest. Tusk fears Orbán will use this regional role to undermine the EU direction it has just championed – not least because Budapest has kept its programme secret, breaching protocol between V4 capitals. While the role holds no sway over EU regulation, it risks spoiling Poland’s EU Council legacy – and weakening EU unity.
