EU Focus on Security in Gdansk. Rutte Urges War Readiness
3 February 2025
Every Monday Visegrad Insight releases a weekly update on key developments in Central Europe from the point of view of democratic security.
Our team monitors for important political, civil society, economy and foreign policy updates and where possible hints at risks and developing scenarios. Currently, we monitor the situation in the following 10 countries.
This week a special note on the inauguration of Joe Biden (Wednesday, January 20) which will usher in a new era in global politics and is of especial interest for countries in Central Europe wanting to increase the impact of democratic institutions as well as transatlantic ties. Expect to see those more ideologically aligned with Donald Trump’s platform to make some grandstanding remarks, but all the countries will officially offer good fortune to the new administration. The unrest that may unfold in pockets across the US this week (as well as the months following) will only highlight the importance of good governance and the need for higher levels of accountability and transparency.
