The International Olympic Committee is under fire for allowing Russian and Belarusian athletes with alleged pro-war activities to compete in the Paris Olympics, highlighting ongoing controversies and challenges in maintaining Olympic values amidst global conflicts.
On Tuesday 23 July, the International Olympic Committee came under accusations of negligence after releasing a dossier of 17 Russian and Belarusian athletes due to compete at Paris who it said had shown support for the war in Ukraine in breach of Olympic rules.
Global Rights Compliance said the athletes had either liked social media posts supporting the invasion of Ukraine, competed in pro-war competitions, or were members of military-linked sports clubs.
