Czech NGOs are bracing for an uncertain future as US-linked funding cuts bite, exposing cracks in an already fragile financing system that even the largest organisations struggle to navigate.
Czech NGOs/CSOs surveyed by Visegrad Insight, as part of the ‘Foresight on European Values and Democratic Security’ in Central Europe project, voiced concerns over the lack of domestic funding, despite the increased involvement of local private donors and other improvements in recent years. Such concerns are made more pressing by US-linked funding cuts made in January.
Moreover, the cuts in US-linked funding come at a time when the campaign ahead of the October election to the national parliament picks up pace, and the NGO sector is frequently targeted by populist and far-right parties’ rhetoric.
