Czechs Will Take the Energy Transition Seriously During their Presidency

Czech Minister of EU Affairs Mikuláš Bek — Russian aggression is a chance to wean the EU off fossil fuel dependence

3 June 2022

According to Minister Mikuláš Bek, Ukraine will play a key role in the Czech Presidency of the European Union.

‘There are good reasons for this, including global food security’ said the Czech Republic’s Minister. But other topics during their presidency will include gas supplies for next winter or modifications to the Green Deal, as well as the rule of law in Poland and Hungary.

Czech Minister of EU Affairs Mikuláš Bek

Russia’s aggression against Ukraine has fundamentally and unexpectedly changed events in Europe. Will Ukraine be the main topic of our EU Presidency?

Yes, it will be the main topic. But it is more the ‘political part’ of the Presidency that is really being redesigned. As far as the legislative agenda is concerned, it remains. However, there are things being added to it that reflect the situation in Ukraine. So it is not that Ukraine has replaced the rest, but rather has added another huge package to the top of the pyramid.
