The Visegrad Group is important for the whole of Europe but the relationship with the EU is more often than not a complicated affair. Czech Deputy Minister for Europe Aleš Chmelař reflects on discrepancies within the group and what role the four countries together can play in the wider region.

Aleš Chmelař, Deputy Minister for Europe at the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs, explains in an engaging and respectful way the history, concerns, achievements and purposes of the Visegrad Group, which represents a large part of Central Europe.

Chmelař is an economist and previously served as Secretary of State for European Affairs before becoming a Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. Last year, he was a guest at Visegrad Insight’s European #Futures Forum in Brussels.
