Relieved with the departure of Donald Trump, Central Europe cannot expect things to go back to how it was four years ago. Europe will have to deal with its security and economy to a greater extent on its own. However, Americans will continue to support democracy and regional initiatives.
Every country or region in the world is wondering what the new Joe Biden administration will mean to them. Of course, we ask ourselves the same question in Central Europe, and as usual, the answer is not easy.
The starting point is the statement that American attention is and will continue to be focused ( in addition to domestic problems) on China as a strategic rival. The tone of American rhetoric will change, but one thing is certain: The United States will expect help and support from its allies in the global rivalry with China.
Biden will put more emphasis on respecting the rules of democracy, which some politicians in Central Europe have problems with.
