March EU Council to Focus on Defence and Competitiveness
28 February 2025
A weekend of humiliations is over. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer apologised to Baltic leaders for excluding them from a historic Ukraine summit, as Lithuania’s President Gitanas Nausėda warned that countering Russia demands unity – especially from those who know the threat best.
The Baltic snub came just days after the contentious visit between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the Oval Office, and comes ahead of an EU defence summit on 6 March.
The Baltics aren’t just seeking inclusion; they’re leveraging their expertise. Their collaboration with Taiwan highlights this, from UAV tech exchanges to newly launched cooperation on undersea cables, a critical move as Russian and Chinese sabotage escalates.
