Poland’s 2025 Presidential Race: A Referendum on the Government
3 December 2024

Europe needs to address Ukrainian women and children as future EU citizens. Policies tailored intelligently for specific groups of refugees or migrants will help move the EU response to the next mass movements of people.
24 February 2022 is a date that will live in infamy. Not only does it mark the beginning of Russia’s unprecedented, full-scale attack against Ukraine but also the start of new mass migrations to the EU – with over 4.6 million people being displaced. Among the migrants who fled Ukraine, a vast per centage are women and children, many of whom are now planning to stay long-term in the EU.
For months, observers and those directly affected have treated the situation as temporary, but as the war continues to rage for 9 months already, we can be certain the crisis will continue for some time. Therefore, it requires a deeply rooted strategy by European authorities as well as policies from member states. Moreover, the strategy should be comprehensive and the policies towards refugees should address their immediate needs and secure their future as members of EU societies.
