Europe Meets In Yerevan While Putin Scrambles His Parade

The new US National Defence Strategy published over the weekend emphasises a strategic shift of American interests towards homeland protection and industrialisation to achieve a global balance of power with China. Toning down the confrontational tone toward Beijing, it states the objective of preventing China from ‘dominating us or our allies’.
US still plans to maintain limited and targeted support to Europe, concluding that ‘Germany’s economy alone dwarfs that of Russia’ and that Europeans must build both the conventional forces and the military-industrial complex to contain Russia themselves. That will not be taken lightly by the Polish far-right opposition as the PiS has built a consistent anti-German position advocating that Poland – not Germany – becomes the American darling in Europe.
No matter the noise, the emphasis on strengthening Europe’s defence-industrial base through German potential is good for Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) because of the region’s economic interdependence.
