EU/REGIONAL
- EU leaders meet their counterparts from Latin America at a summit in Brussels on Monday as both sides struggle to compromise on a mix of trade and environmental issues while remaining divided on Ukraine.
- NATO Summit in Vilnius: Ukraine receives promises of large weapons packages from allies and the G7, but the absence of a membership offering shows the lack of expectation management. Read more here
- Türkiye to ratify Sweden’s NATO membership. After promises were made regarding potential EU membership and the sale of F-16s, Türkiye ended its block of Stockholm’s application to the alliance.
- EU Council adopted a position on the 2024 draft budget opening a way for the Spanish presidency to negotiate the budget with the European Parliament
- Extreme temperatures will continue to bake much of Europe this week. Italy is facing its potential worst heatwave in history, while in Spain, the extreme heat has caused wildfires to start across the country. More on regional impact below.
- EU informal ministerial meeting on consumer affairs, industry and the internal market will be held in Bilbao, Spain, on 24-25 July.
