Slovak ex-Prime Minister Robert Fico’s desire to return to power in the September elections looks more uncertain than only a few months back after support for his party stagnated while the main rival Progressive Slovakia gained.
Until a few months back, it was acquired wisdom that Slovakia’s populist, pro-Moscow ex-prime minister Robert Fico was poised for a comeback in September elections on the back of widespread disillusionment with the previous multiparty administration that collapsed early in the year.
Fico’s potential return to government could dent Western unity in support of Ukraine, but with less than two months to go, his chances are becoming less certain due to stagnating support and the absence of obvious coalition partners, according to surveys.
