Cǎlin Georgescu has just been banned from presidential elections in Romania and his response was to call out a ‘direct blow to the heart of democracy’. In reality, it is his extremist and pro-Russia friends that are sabotaging democratic principles.
Russia is polarising democratic alliances, whether by actively subverting electoral processes, or exploiting divisions through FIMI operations. The likes of JD Vance then happily jump on Russian and Georgescu narratives – potentially jeopardising serious projects like the largest NATO base in Europe.
