After decades of reliance on Russia, the Baltic states have flipped the switch. Now synced with the EU grid via Poland, their move boosts regional security as Poland positions itself as a key energy and logistics hub.
Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania have officially disconnected from Russia’s electricity grid, marking a major step in their energy independence. On 8 February, the three Baltic states cut ties with the Russian-controlled Brell network and successfully synchronised with the European grid via Poland.
The Baltic integration aligns with Poland’s broader push to expand its energy infrastructure. Prime Minister Donald Tusk recently announced that more money will be invested in Poland in 2025 than ever before, with planned investments exceeding €155 billion (650 billion zloty).
