As researchers on Central Europe, we both know that, as so many times in history, it is us again. This time in Ukraine. We are closely involved in the Russian-Ukrainian war. Even if we cannot yet see its consequences, it is probably a turning point.
So far, nearly 300 thousand refugees have arrived in Hungary from Ukraine. Help is being organised and collected without interruption. With care and love. Anyone who, like myself, remembers the dawn in November when my father herded us into the air-raid shelter knows from personal experience what military aggression means. It determined our fate for decades.
