Political violence is nothing new in Czechia – but every time it happens, we must say clearly: not like this.
Whenever we see violence in politics, we must say emphatically: Not like this. That applies to the latest case too, where an angry man who, by his own account, could no longer listen to Andrej Babiš’s speeches hit him with a crutch at an election rally.
Such behaviour cannot be tolerated for even a millisecond. At the same time, it makes no sense to pretend this is something exceptional that has only just arrived in Czech politics, nor to suggest that Babiš’s political rivals are somehow indirectly responsible for the blow, as members of Babiš’s party claim.
