As the Alaska meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin draws near, Ukraine and its European allies are working hard to influence the talks from afar.
Poland’s Donald Tusk appears to be a key driver. Over the weekend, he was one of six leaders to issue a joint statement calling for a solution that protects Europe’s and Ukraine’s security. After a private call with Volodymyr Zelenskyy, he said he felt a freeze in the conflict is now ‘closer than it is further away’.
JD Vance, who met Zelenskyy in London on Saturday, warned that America is ‘done with the funding of the war’. He also expressed hope, however, that the Ukrainian President could ‘be part of the process’ – if not present at this particular meeting.
