In this Monthly Foresight, European security is the focus, with the Conference on the Future of Europe facing difficulties to find its place on the European agenda in the context of more urgent recent events in Ukraine and other turbulences in the world.
More news centered on security for May.
This year, the 9th May celebrations of the end of WW2 are without any doubts going to be special in Russia. The country that launched the largest military conflict in Europe and the world since 1945, officially fighting imagined “fascism” in Ukraine, will most probably not only employ all means of propaganda, but also present some “results” of the so-called special military operation in Ukraine.
There are speculations that the 9th of May – a traditionally highly-watched and politically instrumentalized festivity in the Russian Federation – might serve as a moment to officially announce the war against Ukraine, in order to allow for general mobilisation of the Russian society in the total war against Ukraine.
