The EaP Trio is not the only hot topic ahead of the upcoming summit. Ideas stemming from the discussions at the EaP foresight conference in Warsaw (30 November 2021).

On December 15, the sixth EU summit of the Eastern Partnership (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine) is going to be held again – four years since the previous one.

In recent years the region has lost its importance for the EU since high-level meetings were postponed several times due to the reluctance of Germany, Croatia and Portugal.

Stark Picture

The EU’s Eastern neighbourhood has been shaken up by a number of recent developments, including a recent flare-up in the war between Armenia and Azerbaijan, an unprecedented level of repression and resulting international isolation of Belarus — which officially suspended its activities in the initiative in June 2021 — as well as a more aggressive Russia that is increasingly putting pressure on its neighbours.
