Alviina Alametsä is an MEP from Finland who started to speak out about NATO membership even before the Russian invasion. Her stance is interesting as she admits that has not supported membership in the past.
That is the trend in the whole country. After Russia attacked Ukraine, the public perception has changed and 76 per cent of the population now supports NATO membership.
‘I agree that Putin made a strategic mistake. If his goal was not to have a NATO member state in his neighbourhood, he is definitely going to fail,’ says Alametsä, a member of the EP’s Committee on Foreign Affairs.
