This week, the Czech and Slovak governments had a joint meeting in the Slovak city of Trenčín, where Visegrad Insight met with the Czech Foreign Minister to discuss the EU’s policy on Ukraine, Russian sanctions and international rules-based order.
Marco Németh sat down with Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský. Lipavský is a Czech politician who has served as Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic since December 2021 in Petr Fiala’s cabinet.
Marco Németh: Recently, the Czech presidency ended, which many experts rated positively. How do you feel about the difficulties that Europe will face in the upcoming months? What are the main issues we need to solve?
Jan Lipavský: It is Putin’s imperialism and his ambition to defeat Ukraine’s will to be a sovereign nation in its internationally recognised borders. And Putin’s war in Ukraine brings us many challenges which we face internally, … [such] as the huge wave of war refugees, high inflation and high energy prices.
