In the atmosphere of confusion and irregularities, the parliamentary elections preliminary results reveal the impact of the deep, widespread frustration with the Bulgarian reality.
Three dominant political parties GERB (EPP), BSP (S&D), along with the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (Renew), which dominated the scene for three decades, were significantly weakened in the parliamentary elections.
Despite a nominal victory, the GERB party led by prime minister Boyko Borisov faces a substantial withdrawal of support that weakens its legitimacy to rule the country.
The socialists, who were the second-largest party in the parliament, turn out third, bypassed by the populist There is Such a Nation (ITN) party of Slavi Trifonov – a pop-singer.
