Enhancing Collaboration and Development

On 3 March 2021, Visegrad Insight organises the “CEE-UK Online Interactive Influencers Conference” in cooperation with the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

The influencers meeting will largely serve to develop actionable policy recommendations, inform UK policy choices and map areas for enhanced CEE-UK collaboration and development.

In order to gather authentic and practical insight into contemporary political, economic and social issues, a select group of non-governmental influencers will gather at this interactive event to discover pathways for the UK to recalibrate its relationship with Central European states, including Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechia, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia.

During three plenary sessions, the conference will present many distinguished speakers, including an opening keynote address by Nigel Baker OBE MVO, HM’s Ambassador to Slovak Republic, and closing remarks from Sarah Taylor, Europe Director at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

The plenary session FORGING SECURITY AND DEFENCE RELATIONS UK-CEE will feature  Angus Lapsley, Director General Strategy & International, UK MOD, Róbert Ondrejcsák, Ambassador of Slovakia to the United Kingdom, f. State Secretary of Defence, and Oana Popescu Zamfir of the GlobalFocus Center in Romania, and be moderated by Marcin Zaborowski, Adjunct Fellow at Visegrad Insight and the former Director of the Polish Institute of International Affairs.

The second session on FUTURE-PROOFING OUR ECONOMIES, SOCIETIES AND MODES OF WORK will bring together Thomas Fletcher, a diplomat and Principal of Hertford College, Oxford; Joanna Tyrowicz, Professor at the University of Warsaw and Alena Kudzko, Director of GLOBSEC Policy Institute, Slovakia. This discussion will be moderated by Tomasz Kasprowicz, CFA, entrepreneur and vice president of Res Publica Foundation.

The third session is devoted to GREENER AND HEALTHIER SOCIETIES AND ENVIRONMENTS, AFTER THE PANDEMIC and will feature Violeta Bulc, curator of ecocivilisation, former EU Commissioner of Transport, and a former Deputy Prime Minister of Slovenia, entrepreneur, innovator; Nick Bridge, the Foreign Secretary’s Special Representative on Climate Change of the FCDO UK [tbc], and Justyna GlusmanHead Coordinator for Sustainable Development and Greenery, City of Warsaw, Poland. The discussion will be led by Wojciech Przybylski, editor-in-chief of the Visegrad Insight and the Chairman of Res Publica Foundation.

The conference panel discussions will be interrelated with three workshops organised around five key topics:

  1. Future-proofing our economies, societies and modes of work facilitated by Zsuzsanna Szabo and Tomasz Kasprowicz
  2. Forging security and defence relations facilitated by Magda Jakubowska/Galan Dall and Marcin Zaborowski
  3. Creating greener and healthier societies and environments facilitated by Albin Sybera and Michał Zabłocki
  4. Confronting disinformation and digital security facilitated by Oana Popescu and Filip Konopczyński
  5. Ensuring that gender, equality of opportunity and inclusion facilitated by Kerry Longhurst and Tetiana Poliak-Grujic
